1. What can I expect the first time I testify before the House Judiciary Committee?
If arriving by car, you can park at the Navy Stadium parking lot ($5), or the Gott Ct. Garage. There is a shuttle that stops in the parking lot and goes right to the House building ($1). Other bills are on the docket with yours, so expect to spend the afternoon there. If you are verbally testifying before the committee, you will need to sign in for the bill(s) on which you're testifying; the sign in sheet is collected 15 minutes before the start of the session (12:45 for a 1:00pm session). Bring 35 copies of your written testimony and bring it to one of the clerks that are usually preparing the committee materials prior to the start of the session.
2. How can I express my concerns or support for a bill?
By email, snail mail, fax, testifying in person and submitting written testimony. Contact sponsors, committee members, and your own representatives, usually in that order...To the extent possible, MDF will provide links to bills, sponsors and committee members on the federation website.
3. Where do I go to testify before the House Judiciary Committee?
House Office Building, Room 101
6 Bladen St., Annapolis, MD 21401
(410) 841-3488, (301) 858-3488; 1-800-492-7122, ext. 3488 (toll free)
fax: (410) 841-3850, (301) 858-3850
The Navy Stadium shuttle lets you off at the T intersection at the top of this street and the building will be on your right as you walk to the building. Once in the building, security search includes x-ray and magnetometer. After you pass through security, the Judiciary Committee Hearing Room is the first chamber on your left.
